Using Linux provides an entirely different perspective on operating systems. In this course, students are introduced to a second operating system that was developed in an entirely different way to the Windows operating system. Linux is for those who enjoy doing things differently!
Having grown out of the UNIX culture, Linux presents an extremely powerful and interesting working environment, whether it be a highly customisable graphical user interface, or the amazingly powerful command-line interface. The student will learn all the exciting possibilities of the GNOME desktop as well as some of the finer points of using Linux commands to work with files and directories, to redirect input and output, and to control Linux processes. This course also provides plenty of opportunities to have fun with all the applets to be found within the GNOME desktop environment. Warning: Wanda the Fish can be addictive!
