Why CTI Education Group?

A choice of qualification and tertiary institution can make or break a career.

Choosing the right course and the right institution of study after grade 12 demands careful consideration of a number of daunting facts:

  • 15% of all first-year university and technikon students make it to third year.*
  • One in five undergraduates and postgraduates drop out every year, costing the government R1.3b.*
  • There is a 6% chance of completing a university or Technikon course and finding relevant employment.*

* (South African survey, 2003)

Fortunately, some fields of study and some institutions fare a lot better and it is thus advisable to do the necessary research before finally choosing an institution and a qualification.  Issues to be considered include:

  • Are the courses both locally and internationally recognised?
  • How long has the institution been in existence?
  • What is the pass rate?
  • Can the institution show its success rate of placing its students into jobs?
  • What method of teaching does the institution use (large lecture rooms, small lecture rooms or one-on-one tuition)?
  • Does the institution consistently strive to develop new course  material that is both academically challenging and relevant to industry needs?

CTI's Credentials
CTI's origins date back to 1978 and it is now one of the longest-standing academic institutions in South Africa with 12 campuses countrywide. CTI has literally produced thousands of graduates who now hold senior positions in many companies, and has built a reputation as one of the best tertiary institutions in South Africa.

CTI has consistently produced a pass rate of more than 80% every year and has, over the last 10 years, placed between 75% and 95% of its graduates into jobs within four months of completing their course. Consistent relevance and quality of academics, and a structured placement support team drives this process.  We know that if the course suits what the market wants then employment is virtually guaranteed.

CTI has also developed career paths within its IT, Commerce, Creative Arts & Communications and Law & Social Sciences faculties to guide students through courses and job placement. CTI's student advisors offer advice on what course to study based on aptitude, interest, and employment opportunities - a very simple yet effective process. Over the years, parents who adopted this concept now reap the rewards of seeing their children educated and successfully employed.

South African Credentials
CTI's registration status with the Council for Higher Education (CHE) and the Department of Education (DOE)  (Reg No. 04HB01) in South Africa ensures local recognition.

Ongoing Development and Job Placements
CTI constantly updates its course material to stay in touch with what is marketable.  CTI's multi-million rand research and development (R&D) budget ensures that students learn material that is relevant to what employers want.  With CTI's job placement services, more than 75% of students are placed, or are working in IT within four months of finishing their course.

Employment
IT graduates (who decide not to study a degree) are in fact employed at the same level as university graduates, and are often preferred because of the practical nature of their qualification.  Many CTI graduates have also found themselves lucrative employment overseas, where employers quickly recognise the quality and standards of the graduate's skills, and where employers value South African work ethics.

Mastery Learning Methodology
Students who study IT at CTI use the Mastery Learning Methodology (MLM).  This means that students can study according to their own abilities, and not be held back by slower students or feel lost if the pace quickens.  Numerous studies over the years have proven that this method of study increases knowledge retention and skills mastery by up to 300%.  Students who complete their qualification ahead of schedule can continue studying additional courses at no extra charge.

Commerce Faculty
One of the cornerstones of CTI's success is its focus on career training as opposed to courses that may look interesting but in reality are worthless because of poor job prospects.

Level 3 (Business & IT) (degree)
Unlike many South African degrees that may hold international recognition status, this degree is an international qualification, which will be automatically recognised in all countries where British qualifications are accepted.

The degree will suit students who intend to gain knowledge in international affairs such as international trade and finance, international marketing, and multi-national enterprises and development.  The qualification will prepare graduates for careers in management (not just business) and gear graduates towards employment as future managers in local companies and for employment in international companies, unlike many general-purpose commerce qualifications.

Key points to remember:

  • Achieving an Honours degree in Business Administration will automatically open the door to a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
  • Third-year students can use CTI's placement   assistance.
  • Gaining an international qualification enables our graduates to keep their options open in terms of where they ultimately wish to work, even if many of them currently intend remaining in South Africa.
  • The curriculum is both British and South African, enabling   students to gain employment locally or in the UK.
  • Classes typically have 25 - 35 students, ensuring a better   understanding of the subject matter due to individual attention.

Both the Tourism degree and Human Resource degree have been included in the CTI offering, as they provide students with real employment opportunities. Both degrees offer intensive practical components culminating in industry internships, ensuring that upon completion, of studies students are adequately prepared for the workplace. (Note that Galileo, a practical field trip and Airfares and Ticketing are included in the Tourism degree.)

The Commerce faculty also works in conjunction with UNISA and provides BCompt studies on a full-time basis at specific campuses for students wishing to embark on careers in chartered accountancy.

Creative Arts & Communication Faculty
The graphic design course specialises in two fields: advertising and design, and multimedia. Although our students continuously win many prestigious awards for outstanding work, the main feature of the course lies in its state-of-the-art 3D animation software training in the third year whereby students learn how to build and produce their own 3D motion pictures.

Law & Social Sciences Faculty
CTI offers two outstanding degrees in this faculty, a B Psychology and a LLB (UNISA).

The 4-year B Psych degree is a HPCSA accredited professional degree. Compared to other  four year psychology degrees, this degree has the highest percentage of Masters of Psychology admissions in South Africa, mainly attributed to the 720 hours of practical work. This degree is rated by many as the best Psychology degree in South Africa today.

The LLB degree is a four year professional degree awarded by UNISA for those who intend to become attorneys or advocates. The pathway to working in the legal fraternity can be long, and therefore it is advisable to contact one of our student advisors for more information regarding this degree.

It is Worth Doing Your Homework
We are frequently approached for assistance by graduates who did not do their homework.  They hold qualifications that are worthless in today's job market, or qualifications from institutions which are not recognised in South Africa, or overseas.  There is little to be done at that late stage.  Hence, we urge you to do your homework before you decide where to enrol, and which qualification to study.

Should you require additional information prior to us visiting you, you are invited to call CTI to arrange for a visit at your own convenience.

Don't wait until the end of the year to choose a study path.  We think it is wise to act sooner rather than later.  Many prestigious educational institutions have limited capacities, and it is thus advisable to register your child as soon as possible.  You should not wait for the preliminary exam results, because by then the better opportunities may no longer be available.
